Places to visit in New York?

Question by Sarah.Boo: Places to visit in New York?
Here’s the scoop… I’ve been to New York once, and I’ve done it all. The Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty/ Ellis Island Cruise, Macy’s, SoHo, China Town… etc.

I was wondering if anyone knows of any “un derground” type places.. so to speak.

Fun, interesting things, that not a lot of people know bout, yet they do.
Kind of like the designer lines in china town. ha.

any suggestions.
I’ve heard of a hot dog place where the front door is like a phone booth or something.. ne way.

suggestions please, anything.

and if possible location, too. :]
thank you thank you thank you!

has anybody ever done it before, actually i am going to Thailand in a couple of weeks and i was just thinking about taking a cruise and i want to stay on a boat as long as i can and the longest route i can afford is from thailand to Australia, my main concern is that i hold a China passport and i don’t have a VISA to go to Australia, but i don’t care if i can get off the ship, i just want to be floating on the sea for a couple days, so will they let me on their ship if don’t have a VISA to Australia, how exactly can i make this happen
Thank you !

Check out the following websites

Sun Princess Cruise http://www.princess.com/learn/destinations/
Star Cruise http://www.starcruises.com/newweb/main.aspx

On your question on visa, you need to have visa of all the countries that the cruise will be going to regardless of whether you wish to get off the ship or not. For example if Australia is one the cruise’s destination, then you need to have Australian visa. This is because once the ship is in Australian water, everyone on board is considered to have arrive in Australia. If you do not have the Australian visa , you won’t even be allowed to board the ship from your first point which in your case from a port in Thailand eg. Phuket.

Check out the website of Star Cruise ( given above ). They have a ‘ cruise to nowhere ‘ trip from a Malaysian port but this is just a day cruise. Alternatively you may take a cruise from Phuket to Singapore and then return to Phuket. This would take about 3-4 days.

Are parts of War of the Worlds(2005) based on an old world war 2 movie?

Question by Timmy T: Are parts of War of the Worlds(2005) based on an old world war 2 movie?
A friend of mine, in a video production class, told me that he read a book of movie scripts. In it he found the script to some old world war 2 movie. He said that scenes from war of the worlds were reproduced word for word from this movie. Like the scene where tom cruise and his family have the only working car and they leave the city while everyone behind them dies. Instead of aliens killing people it’s the japanese invading, possibly china or the phillipines, and killing everyone. There are other scenes that do this too, I can’t remember which, the only difference is that names and places are switched. Can anyone verify this? If this is true I’d like to know what movie is it?
yes i know it’s based on a novel
i’m asking if parts of the script, dialogue, and scenes were tkaen from an old world war 2 movie
stop telling me it’s based on a book by welles\
I ALREADY KNOW
i’m asking if PARTS OF THE SCRIPT WERE TAKEN FROM ANOTHER MOVIE!
i know the movie has nothing to do with ww2
i’m saying that steven spielberg took parts from an old ww2 movie and changed it to suit war of the worlds

Drought in China Incurs more than RMB 600 mln in Losses?

Question by onlyonce: Drought in China Incurs more than RMB 600 mln in Losses?
(China Knowledge, Aug 17, 2006) – A serious drought has created direct economic losses of over RMB 400 million and RMB 246 million in Sichuan and Chongqing respectively, according to a Xinhua report on Saturday.
Xinhua also reported that the drought, which is the worst in 50 years, has affected more than 1.3 million hectares of farming land. Many farmers in Sichuan and Chongqing have lost their entire corps, which have withered from the lack of water and the intense heat.
The Yangtze River in Chongqing was also hit by the drought, with its water level dipping by a 20-year low of 4.12 m in July.
More than 10 million people in Sichuan and Chongqing face a shortage of drinking water. Sichuan plans to create artificial rain for its 12 cities, while Chongqing is tapping ground water and improving water conservation facilities.

If Bush is a “chicken hawk” then what was Clinton?

Question by : If Bush is a “chicken hawk” then what was Clinton?
Liberals and democrats here in Yahoo Q and A like to call George Bush a “chicken hawk”. They claim he avoided Vietnam service by joining the Air National Guard, yet has no problem sending troops to fight and die in Iraq. Okay……..

So then what was Clinton? Clinton NEVER EVEN SERVED in the military, but had no problem sending ill-equiped Army Rangers to die in Somalia in 1993-94, sending troops to Rwanda in July 1994, sending troops to Haiti in September 1994, invading Bosnia in December 1995, sending US sailors into harms way to maneuver off the coast of China in 1996 as a threat to Beijing, and firing cruise missiles at suspected chemical weapons sites in Iraq in December 1998! So if George Bush is a “chicken hawk” then what was Bill Clinton?
I have provided FACTS regarding Clinton’s lack of military service and the troops he sent into harms way during his presidency. Calling me a liar doesn’t change that! Sorry! Nice try!

I would rather go Thailand and China. These two countries have a lot to offer aside from ancient cultures and traditions which you can get from tours on Egypt and Turkey. Ecuador and Galapagos tour is somewhat nature sight seeing which you can get from both China and Thailand at even more spectacular views. What lacking for the first three are shopping, spa’s and beaches as side trips.
