Where is a great *affordable* honeymoon destination for September 2008…suggestions?

Question by Elizabeth Iris: Where is a great *affordable* honeymoon destination for September 2008…suggestions?
I’m getting married on 9/27. We’re 22, & are in school & working full time, so, we don’t have a lot of money. I’m looking for ideas. Hotel on the beach? A cruise? We aren’t sure if we can travel anywhere outside of the US (financial reasons) but it would be awesome if we could just come up some ideas. I HAVE TO HAVE THE OCEAN OR A SEA OR SOME LARGE BODY OF WATER. If he could go anywhere in the world, it would be China or Paris. I would love to go to Japan, Mexico, Spain, Italy, or the Caribbean. My mom suggested, Nashville or Gatlinburg the other day. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with those places, I just would prefer those places as vacation spots for when we have kids…not as a honeymoon. We are attempting to get as much luxury as we can of course. The destination you suggest doesn’t have to be any of these places. Money is the name of the game. Any suggestions are appreciated. If you know the round about cost, that’s even better! Again, thanks for any suggestions & prices!
We are from southwestern Ohio. Sorry forgot to mention that…

Help paraphrasing a Paragraph?

Question by Hfghfgj J: Help paraphrasing a Paragraph?
I need some help paraphrasing the following paragraph. Any help would be greatly appreciated:

The project is located in Sandouping, Yichang, Hubei province. The functions of the dam will be to
generate power with capacity of 18.2 kilowatts, flood control and
improved navigation. The process of building the dam started in 1993 (Yangtze river diverted), and is still occurring today (entire project should be complete in 2009-2011). Though the building of the Three Gorges Dam is a great idea, there is some controversy. Certain news agencies and organizations
think that the dam will create an estimated 2 million refugees, and it
will put to threat human health. It will also flood homes and many cultural sites. Moreover, people also suggest that warnings given by project critics are being
ignored. It is also reported that the project has resulted in the
captivity, aggravation and restriction of citizens whose views are
against those of the officials. A lot of corruption is also reportedly
involved in the project. This is not good for the people who live in the general area of the construction site, and it does not help China’s economy (and tourists would not want to travel to China because it is seen as being unsafe with the construction occurring).

Just a few changes, really. Also, take note of the question about the use of the word “aggravation” part way through.

The project is located in Sandouping, Yichang, Hubei province. The function of the dam will be to generate power with capacity of 18.2 kilowatts, flood control and
improved navigation. The process of building the dam started in 1993 (Yangtze river diverted) and is still occurring today. (The entire project should be complete in 2009-2011.)

Though the building of the Three Gorges Dam is a great idea, there is some controversy. Certain news agencies and organizations maintain that the dam will create an estimated 2 million refugees, and it will threaten human health. They also maintain that it will flood homes and many cultural sites. Moreover, people also suggest that warnings given by project critics are being
ignored. It is also reported that the project has resulted in the captivity, aggravation (aggravation seems like a very mild tern to use here…?), and restriction of citizens whose views are contrary to those of the officials. A lot of corruption is also reportedly going on with regards to the project. This is not good for the people who live in the general area of the construction site, and it does not help China’s economy, as tourists do not want to travel to China because it is seen as being unsafe with the construction occurring.

Australia’s military build-up, war in the south Pacific?

Question by MR. RED M&M: Australia’s military build-up, war in the south Pacific?
Many south asian nations if drastically increased military spending in the last 10 years and now Australia is preparing their biggest military build up since WW2 which includes: 100 fifth generation stealth capable strike fighters, 12 new submarines, 4 AWD to the RAN which are armed with Cruise missiles capable of striking 400 km from the Australian shoreline. is war coming to the south Pacific? China is becoming a stronger military power in the pacific region daily as the USA’s influence in the region declines. Japan has also boosted spending in their “self” defence force due to fears of a Chinese led invasion.

Question by : can u please explain to me what I have to do here?
The Chinese government is constructing the largest dam ever built in an effort to control the Yangtze River.  In at least 5 paragraphs I want you to give details about this dam and what kind of impact it will have on China and possibly even the world. You should include information about the structure itself, the positive and negative results of building the Three Gorges Dam and possibly your opinion on the matter which should be supported with reasons why. Lesson 20 goes into more information about this “dam project” ha ha ha.  (Terrible I know.)

IF U CAN GIVE AN EXAMPLE

Answer by Josh M
Come on, think what they’re asking.

Research the dam, it’s called the Three gorges dam – everything you need is on the internet, use your initiative.

Q&A: When is the best time to get citizenship?

Question by hazeltine4: When is the best time to get citizenship?
My fiance is a Chinese citizen, but has had her permanent Green Card (permanent resident) in the U.S for nearly 15 years. We are planning our wedding and honeymoon. She currently only keeps her Chinese citizenship to make it much easier to visit her parents in China, without needing a visa every year.

For our honeymoon, we are planning a Mediterranean Cruise, where she would need multiple visas for the countries we wil visit — at least four visas.

When should she get her US citizenship — before, or after the wedding and honeymoon? As Chinese women do not change their names after marriage, it would not affect her name – other than maybe to go to her “American” first name.

And no — she does NOT need to get married to an American to stay in the U.S.! She has a great job and career with a U.S. corporation.

Lastly — what is the best way to get all the visas needed for the honeymoon??? It seems like most require Embassy visits in Chicago now.

Thanks!!!
Also, we are planning a September of October wedding this year, if that makes a difference.
Also, China does NOT allow dual citizenship. After the citizenship in US, she will lose Chinese citizenship, but she is OK with that.

Best answer:

Answer by Terry
I don’t see that it makes much difference. But the wait from application to citizenship could be 18 months – so that will impact your planning. Once she’s filed her application, it’s much harder to travel outside the US, until the citizenship is granted.

Q&A: Is my marriage an under-resourced and oversold project?

Question by Joe L: Is my marriage an under-resourced and oversold project?
I think I took an order for a project without getting a full set of specifications or test requirements. This was supposed to be working in 3 years and it’s gone on for 12 instead. We’ve missed all the deadlines, people are quitting, and the system still doesn’t work. I think we are in worse shape than the deep tunnel in boston, or the yangtze river dam in china.

If this was a small R&D effort we would probably have thrown in the towel long ago. But this is different… one of a kind. If it works like the power point picture we could dominate the world. We could make energy from water. Feed the hungry. And free all prisoners.

We’ve got most of the mechanicals built and three million lines of software code. There is a team of people in bangalore running a simulation program to debug it but some cows ate the master disk and they have to start all over.

We contacted several governments for help, including the US, russia, and switzerland, but they told us “sorry, we can give you the speed of light and the recipe for coca-cola, but we have no idea how to make your wife fall in love with you all over again”.

I don’t want to give up, there is way too much invested. But I have no idea what to do and I’m very frustrated.

Is it possible that Obama could cut me in on the stimulus package?

Best answer:

Answer by Ryan N
If you stop your self-pity party (I’ve seen several of your posts already) and take action, you’ll find that it’s a lot more beneficial to you, your wife, and your children than moping about what’s wrong.

YOU ARE THE MAN IN THE FAMILY. DO SOMETHING. Don’t just sit there and watch your family fall apart. Get off your butt and start working on your marriage.

Why should we pass the START treaty when it will undermine our national security? 9 reasons not to pass it?

Question by : Why should we pass the START treaty when it will undermine our national security? 9 reasons not to pass it?
1 The treaty restricts both the United States and Russia to a maximum of 1,550 deployed strategic nuclear warheads. For the U.S. military this would represent a decline of well over 90% from a peak of approximately 31,255 strategic nuclear warheads in 1967. The treaty would also limit the total number of deployed ballistic missiles or nuclear bombers to 700.

#2 As part of the treaty we would tell Russia exactly where our few remaining nuclear weapons are and allow the Russians to inspect those sites. So if the time ever came for the Russians to strike our emasculated nuclear arsenal, they would know exactly where to find our few remaining nuclear weapons.

#3 The treaty is so vague about some of the key issues that the two sides are already arguing about what it means. For example, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says that the restrictions on missile defense are “clearly spelled out in the treaty” and that these restrictions are “legally binding”. But in a recent letter to U.S. Senators, Barack Obama stated that the treaty “places no limitations on the development or deployment of our missile-defense programs.”

#4 Nuclear weapons technology is rapidly spreading around the globe and the need for a missile defense system is greater than ever. If this treaty does restrict our ability to build a missile defense system (as the wording of the treaty clearly seems to indicate), that is a very serious threat to our national security. What is going to happen one day when a rogue nation or a rogue terror group launches a nuke at us? Excuses will not cut it at that point.

#5 The treaty completely ignores the very serious imbalance that exists between the U.S. and Russia when is comes to tactical nuclear weapons. Today it is estimated that the Russians have approximately 10,000 tactical nuclear warheads while the U.S. only has a few hundred. These tactical nuclear warheads can be delivered by cruise missiles, long-range artillery or aircraft. The treaty does nothing to change those numbers. This would put the United States at a very serious strategic disadvantage.

#6 The treaty does nothing to restrict the quality of long-range missiles. Currently, Russia is busy modernizing their strategic long-range missiles. The United States is not doing the same. Once again, this could leave the United States at a very serious strategic disadvantage.

#7 The Russian government has shown that they are not trustworthy. Of course, the same thing could be said about the Obama administration. Anyone who trusts anything that Barack Obama says at this point is an idiot.

#8 North Korea already has nukes, Iran is developing nuclear technology and a number of other important nations such as Venezuela are rumored to be interested in nukes. This is simply not a good time to be getting weaker.

#9 If World War III were to break out over the next decade, the United States would very likely find itself facing a Chinese/Russian alliance. The combined conventional military forces of China and Russia are far superior to those of the United States. The only major advantage that we had was our edge in strategic weaponry, and this treaty would greatly weaken that advantage.

Unfortunately, most of those that will read this article simply are not going to care. The vast majority of Americans believe that the Cold War is over and that war with either China or Russia is next to impossible.

But if this treaty is passed, and there is every indication that it will be, then it is going to make a nuclear first strike against the United States much, much more likely.

Previously, everyone knew that if they messed with America they could potentially face being nuked into oblivion. But if this treaty is passed, our nuclear arsenal would be slashed to the bone and our potential enemies would know precisely where to strike to take out most of our remaining nukes.
