Thousand Islets Lake is a pure lake having clean and fresh air and more than 80 percent of the area covered with forests. It is relatively a new lake which was formed in the year 1959 due to the construction of a New Anjiang Hydroelectric Power Station. This is a beautiful lake which is having 1078 islets which shows different views in different seasons. It is a rich lake which is abounded with fish and surrounded by the trees of tea, mulberry and fruits. This lake is a delightful lake for many activities, enjoying the natural scenery, observing the wild animals and local culture.
Thousand Islets Lake lies in the Chun’an County, which is about 150 Km to the west of Hangzhou City and 140 km to the southeast of Mt. Huangshan. It is like the pearl in the route of the Hangzhou-Thousand Islet Lake-Mt. Huangshan and very famous all over the world.
Thousand Islets Lake is popular for mountains, exotic caves, crystal clear water and strange stones. The scenic area can be divided into mainly six sections based on the geographical locations i.e. Southeast Lake District, Central Lake District, Southwest lake District, Northeast Lake District, Northwest Lake District and Fuxi Stone Forest. Each one of these is having its own striking and unique landscape.
The best time for visiting this lake is during the autumn and winter when there is less rainfall. The fine weather, fresh and cool air and clean water are most enjoyable at that time. You can also taste some of the distinctively cooked seafoods as well as local foods. You can also take some souvenirs like hemp embroideries, inkstones and products made from pearls to home.
Thousand Islet Lake is the largest forest park in China currently. It has also been awarded with many titles and received appreciation from both domestic and international tourists which makes it a place worth visit.
